Lipoma, a fatty tumor, is one of the most common tumors of the body. It is derived from a preadipose tissue of mesenchymal origin, as is normal fat. Lipomas are most commonly found in the subcutaneous tissue of the neck and upper trunk.
Prior to the development of suction surgery, lipomas had to be removed by surgical excision, which usually resulted in an extensive scar. Now, using SAL(Suction-Assisted Lipectomy) simple lipomas can be removed adequately, leaving virtually no

deformity. It is imperative that a sample biopsy be sent for pathologic diagnosis so as to not mistake lipoma for liposarcoma.
Two patients with lipoma of the neck were successfully treated with liposuction rather than classical surgical lipectomy.
